Harare

POLICE have arrested a regional manager with a local non-governmental organisation, Civic Trust, for allegedly peddling malicious falsehoods to the international media and hostile nations to Zimbabwe in a bid to portray the country as lawless.

Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Oliver Mandipaka yesterday said Peter Muchengeti was arrested in Harare over a document he authored making various claims that Zanu-PF was perpetrating violence in the Midlands Province.

He said police recovered diskettes, one recorder with two microphones and cassettes when they arrested Muchengeti.

Supt Mandipaka said Muchengeti was expected to appear in court soon on charges of breaching the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

He said in the document titled "Blood by Tracks in Rural Midlands as Violence Continues" and sent to the pirate radio Voice of America, Muchengeti alleged that bodies of six people from Matshekandumba Village were recovered near a railway line 30km from Gweru.

However, Supt Mandipaka said investigations by the police have since revealed that the purported village is non-existent and that such an incident never happened.

Supt Mandipaka said police also found another document in Muchengeti's office which alleged that more than 600 people in Gokwe were assaulted by some Zanu-PF youths and the Minister of Special Affairs responsible for Land and Resettlement Cde Florence Bhuka.

He said police also found an exercise book in which Muchengeti further alleged that 184 people were allegedly murdered by Zanu-PF youths and security agents.

Police, however said there is no record of such incidents as alleged by Muchengeti.

"The police do not have any record of such reports and no such people were either injured or murdered in Gweru," Sup Mandipaka said adding that the names in the exercise book are all fictitious.

He said it was evident from the documents that Muchengeti was gathering false evidence and sending it to various countries and foreign radio stations that are hostile to Zimbabwe.

Supt Mandipaka said it was a serious offence to stage-manage events that discredit the country for selfish and political gains.

The first person to bring shame to Zimbabwe and who should be arrested is bloodstained Mugabe who stated publicly that his bullet was mightier than MDC's pen! Which explains the election-related death of over 80 MDC supporters. The Commissioner of Police is the next one to be arrested for having defied basic democratic principles declaring that he would never allow Tsvangirai to take power from Mugabe through the ballot box!!

A banana republic in emergence??

Why ban foreign journalists from covering events in Zimbabwe, unless bloodstained Mugabe has a lot to hide under the carpet!!

The NGO leader is a... [Read Full Text]
