ADVISOR in the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Dr Munyaradzi Kereke and a senior manager in the bank Mr Mirirai Chiremba are the latest additions to the European Union targeted sanctions list as it intensifies its hate campaign against Zimbabwe.

However, it emerged yesterday that some of the people on the sanctions list may be getting the stick for hidden reasons with glaring falsehoods on roles and responsibilities annexed to them.

For instance, Dr Kereke, a PHD Economics graduate, is described as a diplomat under the Zimbabwe Government while Mr Chiremba is said to be a Ministry of Finance official.

RBZ Governor Dr Gideon Gono is already on the list together with other Government officials. However, his three deputies are not on the list.

Contacted for comment yesterday, Dr Kereke said he was not aware of the latest development.

"I have not seen that list and I can not comment on things I do not know. But one vivid truth is that if indeed I have all of a sudden become some kind of a threat in one way or another to warrant international sanctions by the European Union, then Lord have mercy.

"If what you are alleging is true, I have every reason to feel my human rights as having been deeply violated because I am yet to receive the criteria for my inclusion on the list, let alone the charge sheet illustrating my felonies or otherwise, to my fellow Zimbabweans, the EU and any other living being," said Dr Kereke.

It is understood that the European Union list was arrived at through "malicious" submissions to the EU by some locals intending to settle personal scores.

Zimbabweans and other stakeholders have widely condemned the recent move by the EU to proceed with broadening sanctions at a time progress is being made in charting a cohesive future through peaceful talks being coordinated by President Thabo Mbeki of South Africa.
