Zimbabwe: Three Ambassadors Present Credentials to President

25 July 2008

Harare — THREE ambassadors from South Korea, Nigeria and Mauritania -- which has just established diplomatic ties with Zimbabwe -- presented their credentials to President Mugabe at State House in Harare yesterday.

Ambassador Mohamed Lemine Selmane makes history by becoming Mauritania's first envoy to Zimbabwe.

He would be based in Pretoria, South Africa.

In an interview with journalists after presenting his credentials, Ambassador Selmane pledged to establish cordial relations between Zimbabwe and Mauritania.

"It is a privilege I had the opportunity to convey greetings from His Excellency President Sidi Mohamed Ould Cheikh Abdallahi and his commitment and desire to develop relations of co-operation at economic and diplomatic level," he said.

The new South Korean Ambassador Jae-hack Oh pledged to reinforce existing ties between his country and Zimbabwe.

"I will do my utmost in my tour of duty to reinforce the existing friendly and co-operative relations between Zimbabwe and the Republic of Korea.

"I will do my utmost to enhance Korea's investment in various fields like agriculture, mining and tourism."

Nigeria's Ambassador Adekunle Adeyanju

pledged to improve relations between Zimbabwe and his country.

When asked about Nigeria's inconsistent political stance on Harare, Ambassador Adeyanju said his presence in Zimbabwe as an envoy showed that Zimbabwe and Nigeria "understand each other".

"Pronouncements will always be pronouncements. I will take the relations beyond pronouncements. I will take it to greater heights," he said.

Ambassador Adeyanju said relations between Nigeria and Zimbabwe were not only confined to government circles describing the citizens of the two countries as brothers.

He welcomed the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between President Mugabe, Morgan Tsvangirai and Arthur Mutambara that paved the way for talks to resolve Zimbabwe's problems.

"There cannot be solutions to any situation without dialogue," he said.
