Following the recent nullification of the election of former Governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke, people from the state have been enjoined to eschew violence and embrace the rule of law as a way of moving the state forward.

Making this call in Abuja, the President of Cross River State Professional Women's Forum, Monique Tawo-Ogon, stressed that although the Appeal Court, in pursuance of rule of law, nullified the election of Imoke, indigenes of the state should not lose faith in him, but to prepare to vote for him en masse during the forth coming re-run election.

Tawo-Ogon further reiterated that Imoke was a focused and purposeful leader with an undying love for the state.

"A support for Imoke will translate to good tidings for the state due to a wonderful blueprint capable of taking our dear state to the next level of development he is working on".

She pledged to mobilise all professional women in the Forum to ensure that each vote for Imoke counts during the election.

An Appeal Court sitting in Calabar had, on July 14, 2008, nullified the election of former Governor Liyel Imoke and ordered that the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon Francis Adah, be sworn in as acting governor.

In a swift reaction to the verdict, Imoke in a statement to indigenes of the state, urged them to be law abiding and to rally support for the acting governor, while stressing his belief in the rule of law.

"I wish to state categorically that as a law-abiding citizen, I will respect the rule of law and the constitution I swore to uphold.

"In the light of the judgement, I am handing over to the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly until a fresh election is held and an elected governor subsequently sworn in.

"I appeal to all Cross Riverians to remain calm and go about their normal duties. Let me use this opportunity to thank all Cross Riverians for the immense support given to my administration within the past year and pray you extend the same to the acting Governor, Hon. Francis Adah", he urged.
