Residents of Dutse Alhaji and Dutse Makaranta in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are now counting their losses following the havoc done by floods in the two communities.

The flood which started in the early hours of Wednesday morning LEADERSHIP gathered, claimed the life of a 15 year old boy, Yusuf Musa. According to an eye witness, Yusuf was the architect of his own misfortune.

"As we were busy packing our property to a safe place, I saw Yusuf and two other boys playing in the flood. I shouted at them when I saw that water had gotten to Yusuf's shoulders and continued with my packing, later, I heard shouts from the other two boys that Yusuf has drowned. I don't know why children are so foolish that they see every circumstance as fun" lamented Ibrahim.

The mother of the deceased boy could not put herself together to comment on the unfortunate incident as she wept.

LEADERSHIP further gathered that the flood was the first of its kind in the communities; residents however, attributed the flood to bad drainage system.

It was learnt that houses and property worth millions of Naria were lost in the flood. Residents who were affected have solicited the assistance of the government as they are now homeless.

FCTA has however, taken assessment of the damage done in the areas and has promised to come to the rescue of the affected victims as soon as possible and also to proffer a lasting solution that would prevent the flood from re-occurring.
