The International Olympic Committee (IOC) in collaboration with the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone (NOCSLE) will host its annual Olympic Day run in Freetown on Sunday.
The day event is to be held by three categories of athletes who will start their races from different locations but end at the National Stadium.
The modern day athletes to be flagged by the Mayor of Freetown, Herbert George Williams will start from East End Police.
For the middle aged athletes, they will start their run in front of the Bank of Sierra Leone. It would be flagged by the bank governor.
Veteran athletes, who will be flagged by Jestina Jones, will start theirs at St. John junction.
According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Olympic Day run organizing committee, Samuel John, the event is open to every Sierra Leonean as it is organized for people to get a feel of the Olympic Games.
He said the Olympic Day run is not for professionals but for everyone to participate as it only borders on preaching the Olympic ideal. "One does not have to be a super athlete to be in the Olympic family," he reiterated.
The routes to be used for Sunday's event include: Abacha Street, PZ, Wilberforce Street, Siaka Steven Street, Pademba Road, Campbell Street, St John, Savage Street, Syke Street and end at the National Stadium.
