According to the Sierra Leone U-17 squad's assistant coordinator, Victor Lewis, the team will be playing an international friendly before taking on the Gambians if everything works as planned.

Sierra Stars are expected to face their counterpart from neighboring Guinea in a friendly encounter before facing Gambians in the qualifying stage of U-17 championship to be held in Algeria.

"We'll be facing the Gambians in Banjul on the 31st of August. It is necessary for us to play an international friendly match before taking on the Gambians," Lewis said.

With plans to camp the team next week, Lewis advised the players to put more effort in their training as the final 25-man squad is yet to be selected.

"We are yet to select the final squad. Your performance will lead you to the final squad. I believe this team will play the 2014 African Nations Cup for Sierra Leone," Lewis said.

He also called on the players to follow the footsteps of the previous U-17 squad which qualified for both Nations Cup and World Cup finals adding that with determination, they can achieve that goal.
