Addis Ababa — The House of People's Representatives has accomplished its tasks expected of it by the constitution , House Speaker Ambassador Teshome Toga, said on Wednesday.
Speaking with the press at his office, Ambassador Teshome said the House endorsed 46 of the 55 bills it was presented with, most of which focused on infrastructural development, law pertaining to media and freedom of information, registration of political parties, banking, customs and revenue, restructuring of governmental institutions, rural development, good governance, and budget performance evaluation among others.
According to the Speaker, the House also has discussed on various issues passing decision on seven a number of issues including ratifying various bilateral agreements on expansion of trade, investment and tourism with other countries.
He said the House also followed up the appropriate implementation of the budget allocated to it the past fiscal year.
At the moment, the House is closed for two months and the representatives have returned to their electoral localities in order to discuss upon opinions and complaints of their people.
Ambassador Teshome added that some laws that were expected to be passed, like those concerning Non- Governmental Organizations (NGO's) proclamation, have been suspended to next year for intensive discussion with stakeholders.
