Kumasi — The high - tech lobbying within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by some groups to have their favourite candidate made the running mate of Nana Akufo Addo has received a bashing from Kumasi.
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Branch of the NPP has strongly condemned the activities of the lobbyists describing their actions as destructive and selfish.
"Such wranglings and behind the scene approaches should inform Nana Akufo Addo that they do not mean well to win the people's mandate to rule Ghana at the polls on December 7, 2008", the KNUST Branch said in a statement signed by Chairman Kofi Asante.
According to the KNUST Branch, Nana was capable of making his own mind and agreed with Daavi Amma's assertion that all the names making the rounds as Nana's Running Mate were bogus and should be discarded and ignored as a joke.
"We in KNUST share her sentiments and plead with our Flagbearer to pay heed to our earlier advice to him not to allow those with parochial interests to sway him from his own sense of judgment in his choice", the Branch stated.
It asked Nana Addo to take cognisance of the fact that about 70% of the country's voters were below 30 years and choose somebody who would appeal to the youth and at the same time be committed to the Party.
It appealed to Nana Addo to choose none of those promoting themselves in newspapers but rather select one of those hard working party faithfuls who all these years had been working behind the scenes in the interest of the NPP.
The Branch commended the NPP Flagbearer for apologizing to the aggrieved foot soldiers, party faithfuls, youth and activities for the neglect they had faced for sometime now.
"Only a leader who cares for his people and demonstrates his loving care in no uncertain terms will voice out his feelings in the manner Hon. Akufo Addo has done", it said.
It pointed out that all over the country, NPP members who struggled for the return of democracy devoid of insults, assaults, incarceration without due process of the law, or those who disappeared under mysterious circumstances, expected recognition at least for the sacrifices they made
