Lisbon — The president of Cape Verde, Pedro Pires, Thursday in Lisbon (Portugal), approached Angolan prime minister, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, over a cooperation and a symposium on Tarrafal - former colonial prison.
The meeting took place on the fringes of the 7th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Portuguese Speaking Community (CPLP) taking place in Lisbon since Thursday.
According to the Cape Verdean president, the meeting also served for the parties to discuss matters concerning the organisation of the Summit, the relations of political and economic cooperation and the situation in both countries.
Pedro Pires said the meeting was an opportunity to ask for Angola's assistance for the holding, in Cape Verde, of a symposium on Tarrafal prison, where nationalists from the ex-colonies used to be imprisoned during the colonial era.
"The idea is to propose the participation of Angola and Angolans in the symposium scheduled to take place on May 1, 2009, date on which the concentration camp will turn 35 years since it was closed," he stated.
The president also spoke of the need to "revive the memory and united the countries whose citizens went through this place, to reflect on the common past."
