Russian side Zenit St Petersburg have been fined 37,000 euros for the racist abuse suffered by Ghanaian youngster Andre 'Dede' Ayew.

Ayew was targeted by the racist chants during his French club Olympique Marseille's clash with Zenit last season in the Uefa Cup encounter.

"Our disciplinary committee fined Zenit for racist conduct by their fans, the use of pyrotechnics and the display of a political banner during their match against Marseille," a spokesman for European soccer's governing body said.

The Russian side, who booked a place in the quarter-finals after winning the second leg against Marseille 2-0 in Russia on March 12, have three days to appeal, the UEFA spokesman added.
