A former Ghana Football Association chairman says the present administration should have been bold and hand picked Claude LeRoy's successor without dragging the process so much.

A three-man GFA team is due to interview five candidates in Amsterdam this weekend in what the GFA hopes will be the final phase in their search for a new coach but Ben Koufie believes it should not have come to that.

If you handpick you will be called a dictator and people will accuse you of having a cut in the deal

"They want to be on the safer side so that when there is a question they can answer and point to due process. But in football you don't live like that. Somebody must take the responsibility and make a choice that is what other associations do and be bold to answer for them whatever happens," he said.

Koufie made some bold choices during his time in charge against popular wisdom and often they backfired. He hired Milan Zivadinovic even though the choice was questioned given the Serbian's penchant for leaving jobs midway. After one visit home which he claimed was to see to his sick mother, he never returned.

Koufie blames the delay in appointing a new coach on critics who he says will criticize everything and tarnish the reputation of people.

"I understand why they take their time in the search for a coach because in Ghana if you handpick you will be called a dictator and people will accuse you of having a cut in the deal. They will say all sorts of negative things about you."
