The opening date for Cameroon's 2008/2009 football season has been slated to start-off on September 13 at the Douala Reunification Stadium with an opening MTN Elite One derby to pit newly promoted Elite Two sides AS Matelot of Douala and Danay FC of Yagoua from the Northern Province.
The opening date for the next season, among other major decisions, was the key issue decided upon in Limbe on July 16 during an Ordinary Executive Committee meeting of the Cameroon Federation of Football, FECAFOOT.
The Limbe gathering that took place at the Semme Beach Hotel was chaired by FECAFOOT Boss, Iya Mohammed and attended by some 29 members among them the Roving Ambassador, Albert Roger Milla.
As to the other decisions reached, the MTN Elite Two championships shall start off a month later on October 19. The National Youth Championship on its part has been scheduled to begin on October 4, rather.
Meantime, the Executive Committee members equally confirmed the relegation of the following five former MTN Elite One clubs into the inferior MTN Elite Two league. They are: Foudre Sportive of Akonolinga, Caiman of Douala, Esperance of Guider, Tonnerree Yaounde and Lion Ngoma of Ebolowa.
On the other hand, the Panthers of Bangante, Panthère, Danay of Yagoua and A S Matelot were confirmed, also, as having ascended into the prestigious ranks of the Elite One clubs.
In the Provincial league circle, FECAFOOT also sealed the fate of the following former Elite Two clubs as having been relegated to play the Provincial leagues within their various provinces.
That is Kumba Lakers, Victoria United, PWD Bamenda, Fédéral Sporting of Noun, Infinitif of Ebolowa, AS Kadei of Batouri, Diable Rouges of Maroua, Olympic of Garoua and Jeunesse de Ngaoundéré.
FC Ngoma was fined to pay FCFA 500,000 following a roar that broke off between the team and Aigle Royal de la Menoua. FECAFOOT decided on July 16 to award the match to Aigle with a score of 3 goals to nil against FC Lion.
In a briefing to the press after the meeting, FECAFOOT's Boss expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting and the decisions taken. He reiterated their unhappiness, yet, with the fact that they were not given a full role in the selection of the National Team coach a year ago.
From the look of things, Iya and his colleagues were still very uneasy with the fact that their powers, as far as the management of the Indomitable Lions is the matter, are being undermined by the Ministerial quarters.
