The sage which states that 'When what you believe in is false, disaster is inevitable," clearly describes the mindset of Ghanaian football officials, regarding matches against North African teams.
Over the years, Ghanaian football officials had rescheduled games involving our clubs and north African opposition, for instance, from the usual 3pm to 1pm or 2pm.
Their reason for doing so is to subject the North Africans to the hot sunny weather, to allow the Ghanaians have an edge over their visitors.
And majority of football fans have believed this theory. I have been told that Asante Kotoko has rescheduled their second leg Confederations Cup game against Al-Ittihad of Libya from the usual 3pm to 2pm, this Sunday.
Ironically, my recent trip to Egypt has made me realise that our football officials were living in fools' paradise all these while, taking into account the Egyptian hot climatic weather condition.
The hockey players complained bitterly about the scorching heat of Cairo, to which an Egyptian told us that it was a normal occurence. That prompted me to enquire from a senior colleague, Daniel Kenu of the Graphic Communications Group Ltd., as to why Ghanaians reschedule games against North African countries to 2pm, under the pretext of 'punishing' their opponents in the heat, to have advantage over them.
For me, the time rather suits our North African opponents, the reason why we sometimes struggle to beat them in our own backyard.
The kind of hot weather that is experienced up North comes no where close to what we experience here in Ghana. So they are comfortable with the weather while we struggle to match them because we are not even conversant with playing in the hot weather.

It's high time we changed our thought pattern and employ modern day techniques to win games.
