One of the leading mobile telephony companies in the country, Orange Cameroun, in its commitment to promote journalism activities , is working hand-in-glove with the Cameroon Association of English Speaking Journalists, CAMASEJ, for a brighter future.

It is in this light that it sponsored the General Assembly of CAMASEJ, which took place from July 18 -19, at the Alliance Franco-Camerounaise, AFC, Buea, alongside the US Embassy in Cameroon.

On the company's motivation to partner with the English speaking press in Cameroon, the Advertising Manager for Orange Cameroun, Edwin Eselem, said it is part of his company's social responsibility policy.

"We are a citizen oriented company and in line with our corporate social responsibility policy and in giving meaning to our sponsorship and event-road-map for 2008, we are making the necessary efforts to create an emotional proximity between the Orange brand and our customers, especially journalists of English expression in Cameroon."

According to Eselem, Orange Cameroun has always stood by journalists in Cameroon and will continue to partner with them. "Orange Cameroun is recognising the important role that journalists and the media play in the promotion of Orange activities. We have sustainable partnership with media organisations in Cameroon; the case of The Post readily comes to mind.

We think that CAMASEJ is a veritable platform for the promotion of the media and journalists using the English language in Cameroon. The doors of Orange Cameroun are open; each time CAMASEJ submits a proposal, it will be treated accordingly and we will be available to partner with them with ease," he said.

Before sponsoring the CAMASEJ General Assembly, Orange Cameroun had earlier thrown its weight behind the Buea chapter of the Cameroon Union of Journalists, CUJ, during its media awards ceremony earlier this year.

Also, the company took centre stage during the 5th Ordinary General Assembly of the Cameroon Union of Journalists, CUJ, which took place Saturday, July 12, at Djeuga Palace Hotel, Yaounde, where ace journalist, Charly Ndi Chia was elected CUJ National President.

Meanwhile, during the CAMASEJ General Assembly, Orange Cameroun was recognised with a Partners Award. The Director of Sourcing and Supply at Orange Cameroun, Azaria Aba, received the award on behalf of his company. Naturally, Aba was accompanied by Eselem, who had been meticulously supervising Orange Cameroun input into the CAMASEJ General Assembly.

On his part, the National President of CAMASEJ, Francis Wache, hailed the immense contribution received from Orange Cameroun, which facilitated the success of the General Assembly. These included; FCFA 700,000, many packs of state of the art mobile phones, conference materials, outdoor banners in Douala, Yaounde, Mutengene and Buea.
