Harare — ALMOST a year after musicians Alick Macheso and Tongai Moyo ended their Sungura War hatchet and shared the stage - organisers of the Chibuku Road to Fame are battling to bring the two musicians together for another joint show.
The two musicians are expected to share the stage at the Glamis Stadium on September 27 as guest performers at the annual talent search show.
Macheso and Tongai shared the stage last year on September 29 courtesy of Delta Beverages who succeeded where many local promoters had failed.
Delta Beverages public relations and sponsorship manager, Amen Makonese, this week revealed that Chibuku Road to Fame was seeking entertainment from Tongai and Macheso.
"I can confirm that we are hunting Macheso and Tongai so that they provide entertainment during this year's edition of Chibuku Road to Fame.
"Three top musicians will perform at the Glamis as we reward the best upcoming musicians. Gift Amuli is certainly one of them and it is time he gets his recognition, as he is a good musician.
"Macheso and Tongai should be the other two," Makonese said.
Tongai said he has always been in good relations with Chibuku Road to Fame sponsors and he was looking forward to the day.
"I have worked well with Delta Beverages so I am taking part at the event.
"While we, musicians, might want to raise certain things it is certainly the truth that fans want Macheso and I to share the stage. It is a common wish for fans that we play together.
"Deep down in our hearts we know what people want.
"I am looking forward to sharing the stage with Alick and I tell you it would be a wonderful show," Tongai said.
While Macheso could not be reached, he is on record as saying that despite running shows under his company he would always support talent-searching shows.
Meanwhile, selection in the provinces begins today with provincial finals for Matabeleland North to be held in the resort town of Victoria Falls.
The show will be held at Chinotimba Beer Hall where it coincides with the SAB Miller Sorghum Manufacturers Conference to be held in the border town.
Executives from Zambia, Botswana, Malawi and the host country will witness the Victoria Falls and Matabeleland North provincial finals.
Tomorrow, Matabeleland South and Bulawayo will hold their provincial finals at Manor Hotel while Mash West, Masvingo and Midlands will battle for honours in Kadoma's Leisure Centre in Monomotapa on August 2.
Chitungwiza and Harare groups will have their showdown at Vito Tavern on August 8 while Mash-East, Central and Manicaland will lock horns on August 15 at the Cleopas Inn in Marondera.
Makonese said the winning group in each provincial competition will pocket $10 trillion while they will unveil the grand finale prize closer to the final.
"We will reveal the grand finale prize as the date gets closer. As you know we are in an inflationary environment so we will talk of the prize later as we might adjust it to suit the prevailing situation," Makonese said.
The other prize is a recording contract with Gramma Records for a cassette, CD and the DVD.
"We will take only five winners and they will each play four songs and adjudicated on those in the final showdown. Gramma also indicated that the musicians must have at least four good songs on the album - so that the product sells on the market," Makonese said.
