Angola: Portugal - CPLP Congratulated With Country's Growth

Lisbon — The heads of State and Government of the Portuguese Speaking-countries Community (CPLP) expressed satisfaction last Friday in Lisbon, at the Angolan government efforts in the reconstruction of the country and improvement of the citizens living conditions.

The salutation is in the "Lisbon Declaration" signed last Friday in the 7th summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Portuguese-speaking Countries Community (CPLP), in which the Angolan Prime Minister, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, is representing the President of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos.

In the document "they salute the efforts of the Angolan government for the reconstruction of the country (...) that has allowed attaining excellent economic, political and social results, due to the economic growth since the peace achievement in 2002.

The participants also congratulated Angola for the series of actions that it has been developing in the framework of the preparation of the legislative elections set for September 05, transmitting the hope that the polling may occur normally and with the participation of the civil society.

The organisation thanked the invitation addressed to CPLP in order to observe the next legislative elections.

The summit of Heads of State and Government has adopted "Lisbon Declaration", that outlines strategy of acting in the community and the reinforcement of the cooperation among member states as well as "Declaration on the Portuguese Language", which guides the steps for an effective universalisation and valorisation of the Portuguese idiom.

The president of Portugal, Aníbal Cavaco Silva, was elected as the chairperson of the community, while Guinea Bissau Simões Pereira is the current executive secretary.

The Angolan Amélia Mingas was re-elected the head of the International Institute of the Portuguese Language (IILP), for more two years.
