City People Magazine and other titles of the City Media Group have been launched in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital.
Hoping that the coming of the media organisation to Akwa Ibom would provide his people of with information capable of lifting the state to greater heights, the state governor, Godswill Akpabio, speaking at the launching, advised the publishers and editorial staff of the City Media Group to always uphold the ethics of journalism by upholding the truth and presenting balanced reporting.
The governor, who spoke through his deputy, Engineer Patrick Ekpotu, said that "journalism is a very sensitive profession in that the practitioners, in one way or the other affect and control the minds and thinking of the citizens", calling on the publishers to always cross check their facts before going to press because this "will lend more credibility to your titles."
The governor commended the City Media Group for bringing its titles to Akwa Ibom state and appealed to other well meaning and well-to-do individuals and organisations to venture into media the business. This, he said, would help offer more information, which he identified as a "vital variable in democracy", to the people.
Also speaking at the launching, the Publisher/Chief Executive Officer of City Media Group, Mr Seye Kehinde, commended the people of the state, whose patronage he said City People Magazine had enjoyed over the years.
He explained that his outfit, which was established 12 years ago and was publishing only in black and white, had grown to become colourful, adding a weekly, a monthly and a quarterly publication to its stable.
City Media Group's titles, City People Magazine, Fashion & Style, City People Quarterly and Today's Fashion were unveiled at the occasion.
