POLICE at Keetmanshoop yesterday arrested a senior ranger from the Ministry of Tourism and Environment for allegedly abusing Government property.
They swooped on Joseph Isaaks at about 07h30 while he was allegedly transporting his mother, an employee at a private business, to work in a Government vehicle.
Karas Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner Josephat Abel, said the Police had acted on a tip-off from the public.
"We have received several complaints from the public that Isaaks on a daily basis transports his mother to and from work," Abel said.
The arrest came less than two weeks after Anti-Corruption Commission Director Paulus Noa, instructed Police who attended a corruption seminar at Keetmanshoop to take swift action against those abusing State property, especially vehicles.
"Arrest them, impound the vehicle and throw away the keys," Noa said.
Charged with contravening Section 13 (1) of the Anti-Corruption Act, Isaaks yesterday made a brief appearance in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate's Court.
He was released on bail of N$1 000 and is set to return to court on September 11.
