Kigali — On the road to the final, KVC, one of Rwanda's two representatives in the two-day event overcame Kenya's APC 3-1 while KAVC dislodged defending champions Sport S by the same score.
After being crowned champions, KVC's Coach Jean Marie Nsengiyumva hailed his team for the effort.
"This is a good achievement for me and my players. They held their nerve and played some good volleyball throughout the competition," he said before adding, "This is a morale booster to the guys ahead of this year's Coupe du Rwanda and Carre'd'AS tournaments".
The victory handed KVC their third KAVC memorial title after wins in 2001 and 2004. APR, Rwanda's other representative at the two-day event were below par after failing to progress to the semi-finals. In the women's category, KAVC dethroned their fellow Ugandans KCC in a convincing 3-1 final.
The annual tournament celebrated 38 years of KAVC, Uganda's oldest club.
