Namibia: Conference Looks at Sponsorships and Responsibility in Sport

Windhoek — A three-day high profile Sponsorship & Corporate Social Responsibility Investment Conference under the auspices of the University Central Consultancy Bureau (UCCB) of the University of Namibia got under way at the Safari Court Hotel in the capital yesterday.

Amongst the primary objectives of the conference is to stimulate debate, present opportunities for networking, and encourage the development of knowledge transfer of best practice in sponsorship and corporate social responsibility and investment.

Amongst the highlights of yesterday's opening was the keynote address by one of Africa's leading business personalities Sakki Macozoma, and a panel discussion on legacy programmes and benefits, plus industry analyses of sponsorships and branding, including case studies of marketing and communication.

Other highlights included catchy topics on opportunities for the CAF 2010 African Nations Cup finals in Angola and the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals in South Africa, event management techniques, building a successful team to manage partnerships, integrated communications strategies, case studies and international perspectives.

Football heavyweights Gary Bailey, Trevor "the British Bulldog" Phillips, Professor Ronnie Schloss and Professor Wim Hollander represented a credible contingent of sport personalities while Mwape Mwanza from the Corporate Social Responsibility Executive Celtel Zambia, Alan Brough - (thewinwingroup Namibia) and Thebe Ikalafeng - Founder, Brand Leadership, also added weight to the occasion.

The three-day historic gathering is being attended by some of the country's leading sports administrators and business personalities.
