The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has hinted it is investigating the Former Governor of Cross River State, Mr. Liyel Imoke, over unspecified "petitions and allegations".
Although the EFCC earlier denied it was in possession of the power probe report of a House of Representatives committee , a statement yesterday by EFCC's spokesman Femi Babafemi said "the Commission is investigating petitions and allegations before it against the Former Cross River State Governor, Senator Imoke and at the fullness of time, justice will be served."
Media reports last week said Imoke, who was ousted by the Court of Appeal, had sought President Umaru Yar'adua's protection against his likely arrest by the EFCC.
Babafemi said, "While we will not allow ourselves to be stampeded into taking actions based on insinuations, we want to assure Nigerians that the Commission has not been stopped and cannot be prevented from continuing its ongoing investigations on this matter."
