LESOTHO Prime Minister, Pakalitha Mosisili has said that there is need for southern African countries to work together in their quest to realise individual national visions.

Mr Mosisili said inter-dependence amongst the countries in the region was vital in trying to achieve the visions several governments had set for development.

He said this when he addressed the Smart Partnership Dialogue delegates during the opening dinner at Mulungushi International Conference Centre (MICC) in Lusaka on Monday night.

"Countries must come together and strengthen each other economically and politically," he said.

He said national visions were important as they facilitated extensive interaction with the people as they put the community at the centre.

Mr Mosisili paid tribute to former presidents like, Joaquim Chissano of Mozambique, Sam Nujoma of Namibia and Ketumile Masire of Botswana for their commitment and contribution to development in the region and for taking time to attend the forum.

He urged the three former leaders to also urge the sitting presidents to take keen interest in the Smart Partnership Dialogue as a way of enhancing development.

"No one country can transform the region. There is need to engage governments, civil society and all stakeholders for long-term and mutual benefits," he said.

Mr Mosisili commended Zambia for hosting this year's Smart Partnership Dialogue which demonstrated her commitment and good leadership.

He paid tribute to Vice President Rupiah Banda for gathering strength and courage to host the forum in the absence of President Mwanawasa who is admitted to a French Hospital. He wished President Mwanawasa a quick recovery.

"We are with you the people of Zambia in praying for the full recovery of President Mwanawasa," he said.

Malaysian deputy Prime Minister, Mohd Mohammed Najib wished President Mwanawasa a quick recovery.

Mr Mohammed Najib said the forum was a timely opportunity to discuss problems faced by the world.

He said there was need to re-evaluate the options available to fight poverty, escalating food and fuel prices.

"There is need to utilise the opportunities with the partnership," he said.
