Zimbabwe: Jehovah's Witnesses to Hold Convention

31 July 2008

Harare — AN estimated 20 000 Jehovah's Witnesses from Harare, Norton and Chitungwiza are expected to converge at the church's Harare Assembly Hall, for a three-day event focusing on finding reliable guidance.

A spokesperson yesterday said the church would hold its annual convention at the Harare Assembly Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses situated at the corner of Simon Mazorodze Road (Beatrice Road) and Bredon Road in Waterfalls.

"The venue is opposite the Total Garage along Simon Mazorodze Road, Waterfalls. The first of the eight local conventions begins on Friday August 1 (tomorrow) at 9:20am.

"The 2008 'Guided by God's Spirit' District Convention is open to the public. Admission to the convention is free, and no collections would be taken," said the spokesperson.

The programme will focus on why reliable guidance is needed today and where people can turn to for trustworthy advice in all aspects of life.

Witnesses who are associated with the area's 206 congregations anticipate an excellent turnout for the event in view of the enthusiastic response to last year's convention, which had the theme "Follow the Christ".

Witnesses also look forward to welcoming many non-Witnesses to the convention.

Witnesses believe that all those who attend would benefit from practical information presented.

Throughout the country there will be 29 conventions.

Worldwide, there are nearly 7 000 000 Witnesses in over 101 000 congregations.

In 2007, more than 12 million people attended over 3 200 of the Witnesses' conventions around the world.
