Sierra Leone: UN Sec-Gen Boosts Amputee Team

The United Nation (UN) Assistant Secretary General, Gilbert Houngbo on Wednesday blessed the Sierra Leone single-legged team with sporting equipment at the team's training ground, Lumbley beach.

Houngbo, who also doubles as the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) Assistant Administrator of the regional bureau for Africa, is in the country on a 3-day official visit.The donated equipment include six footballs, two sets of football jerseys, 32 pairs of boot, goal nets and skipping ropes.

Speaking to Concord Times, Public Relations Officer of the single legged amputee sports club, Albert Mustapha said they are happy to receive the donation from Houngbo and thanked the team's manager, Peter Ngu Tayong who is the communication and external relations specialist of UNDP Sierra Leone."We played a match for Houngbo to see the strength and power of the team as he has plans to support the team. I must also applaud our team manager for the relentless support he renders at all time," he said.

Mustapha also revealed that for the first time, popular business tycoon, Wilfred Sam King visited the team and gave them encouraging words."Sam King is willing to support the team through education and other aspects. The amputee team is willing and ready to receive higher personalities as they come to give their support," he said.
