Baby Scorpions of The Gambia have lined up two international friendly matches before they host Sierra Stars of Sierra Leone for the 8th edition of African U-17 Championship qualifiers.

The Gambians will first host their Guinea Bissau counterpart on Saturday August 2 at home at the Independence Stadium, Bakau. Three weeks later, they will travel to Dakar to take on the Senegalese U-17 team in a final warm-up match.

Responding to this development, coordinator of Sierra Stars, Alhaji Unisa Alim Sesay aka Awoko said they are prepared to face the Gambians.

"We are preparing to face them. We are also trying to play an international friendly against Guinea in Conakry before facing the Baby Scorpions," Awoko said.

Assistant coordinator of Sierra Stars, Victor Lewis, told Concord Sports in a chat that a call has been made to the government to act fast for the team to be encamped as this will help boost the team's ongoing preparation.

"We also need to play friendly matches to make these boys fit and competitive before facing the Gambians," Lewis said.

The Baby Scorpions are eyeing their second appearance in the CAF U-17 Championships finals. They clinched the U-17 title in their first-ever appearance in the 2005 finals hosted in Banjul and failed to qualify for the subsequent edition hosted in Rwanda in 2007.

Sierra Stars finished as runners-up in the 2003 African U-17 Championships in Swaziland.
