Sierra Leone: Theological College On Attitudinal Change

Freetown — Principal of the theological collage, who said change of attitude among Sierra Leoneans was the country's utmost priority, Wednesday suggested that churches must take the responsibility of helping to change negative attitudes.

Reverend Olivia Lesley said the college is meant for bible studies which are an important area in the educational, moral and religious sectors.

She called on Sierra Leoneans to open their minds and work for the development of the nation.

Deputy director of British council in Freetown Linda Koroma said when Sierra Leoneans are out of the country they put up their best manner, obey all laws but no sooner they returned to the country than they forget and started behaving lawlessly.

The Reverend added that the country has reached a moment of change that must start from the top to the grassroots.

Executive director of the coalition of civil society and human rights organisations Charles Mambu said negative attitude was as a result of selfishness.

"Selfishness by Sierra Leoneans is being practiced in every nook and cranny of society. It is even more prominent in certain reputable institutions, government offices," he said.

Mambu said employment in the country could be based on favouritism, relationship leaving out requirement and capability as criteria.

He said Sierra Leoneans should change their attitudes and the change should start right at the top, noting that the president has made a clarion call that must be heeded.
