Eritrea: 31st Conference of Organization of Eastern And Southern Africa Insurers Held Here

Asmara — The 31st Conference of the Organization of Eastern and Southern Africa Insurers (OESAI) took place at the Hotel Intercontinental Asmara under the theme: "The Effect of Regional Conflicts in the Insurance Industry."

In a speech she delivered at the opening session, the Minister of Justice, Ms. Fawzia Hashim, said that the theme of the conference is timely that requires serious discussion. She also expressed appreciation to the National Insurance Corporation of Eritrea (NICE) for organizing the conference.

Ms. Fawzia further pointed out that in order to meet the challenges effectively, the root causes of the conflicts should be addressed on priority basis. Stressing the need to resolve domestic issues on the basis of the internal resource of the concerned party, the Minister underlined that direct or other form of external interference should be avoided to this end.

The Chairman of the OESAI, Mr. William Konwaki, expressed appreciation to the hospitality accorded the conference participants by the people and Government of Eritrea and called on other insurance companies to join the organization so as to strengthen its capacity.

The Chairman of the organizing committee and manager of the National Insurance Corporation of Eritrea (NICE), Mr. ZeruWoldemichael, on his part indicated that the theme of the conference reflects to the prevailing conflicts that are undermining the development objectives of the region. He further commended government institutions that made due contribution in organizing the conference.

The opening session was attended by delegates from over 17 countries, ministers, senior government officials and invited guests.

The Organization of Eastern and Southern Africa Insurers was established in 1973 and presently groups more than 50 insurance companies from different countries.
