Lagos — Emir of Anka, Alhaji Muhammadu Attahiru Ahmed Anka, has commended President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua's renewed interest in the eradication of Polio in the country.
Anka, who is also Chairman, Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, gave the commendation while receiving members of the Federal Task Force on Polio Eradication that paid a courtesy call on him at his palace.
The Emir applauded Yar'Adua and Federal Ministry of Health for setting up the Task Force, adding that it showed that government was now seriously tackling the issue.
He urged Yar'Adua to be personally involved in the drive to stamp out this ailment which has devastated many families and advised the Task Force members, which included Dr Nasidi, Chairman and Peter Igho, in charge of communicaion, to work in harmony with people at the local level because of the advantage to easily reach the people and acceptance by their kith and kin.
Anka promised to mobilise his wards to embrace the Federal Government's campaign to rid the nation of the dreaded disease.
The Task Force team also visited Sokoto State, to monitor the polio immunisation exercise in three different wards and was also at Dangeshini, Naghuche, where several heads of the communities trooped out for the exercise with members of their communities.
