CELTEL Zambia is among 14 African countries that yesterday successfully re-branded to Zain.

Announcing the development at a Press briefing in Lusaka yesterday, Zain managing director, David Venn said the move coincided with the linking of the world's first borderless mobile service 'One Network' across two continents.

"This service will not be available to Zambia because we are still sorting out the issue of the international gate way, but once we are done it will be available," he said.

The re-branding to Zain would support the company's stated ambition to become a top 10 global telecommunications company by 2011.

All rates and charges remain the same. Tariff plans will not change either and will still remain as Classic per second and per minute, Generation-X, Family as well as Freedom Tariff plans.

"Our products, services and commitment to our communities will remain the same under Zain. We are simply taking an Africa success story (Celtel) to the whole world and establish a global brand."

Mr Venn said Zain as a global brand was set to introduce more world class products and services building on what was accomplished under the Celtel brand name.

"Zain will continue to give its customer the best value for their money, providing them with products and services that meet different needs in the market to ensure that customers enjoy being on the Zain brand.

"Celtel customers' numbers will not change. Celtel customers still retain their numbers on 0977, 0978, 0979 and 0976 prefix. Current Celtel Sim cards also remain valid," he said.

Mr Venn, however, said that as time progresses, new Sim cards under the Zain brand with new numbers will be introduced and the same would also be given in the advent of Sim replacement," he said.

Meanwhile, Zain Africa chief executive officer, Chris Gabriel, said the Zain group was confident that its African customers would embrace the vibrant and colourful Zain identity.

He said that as one brand, Zain would be better positioned to offer customers more innovative products and services alongside the best network coverage on the continent.

Mr Gabriel said the One Network Service would automatically be activated upon crossing the geographical border into one of the countries, with no prior registration required or sign-up fee.

"We are doing every thing possible to ensure that Zambian Zain customers start to enjoy these services as well once the international gateway issue is sorted out."
