Arusha — Arusha Gymkhana Club on July 26 hosted the Tanzania/Kenya Ujirani Mwema golf tournament, the first of its kind, which saw two youngsters generously display their skills and win top prizes.
The Tournament was contested by 55 golfers, all from Tanzania. Kenyan golfers could not make it to the tourney.
The overall winner in the men's category was Elisante Lembris playing off handicp 9 who posted a fantastic score of 43 stableford points. First runner-up was Kush Lodhia playing off handicap 24, who scored 39 points, followed by Simon Travers (3rd runner-up) and Col. Silus Kaaya (4th runner-up)
In the ladies category, Lina Francis emerged over-all winner with an impressive score of 42 points. The second and third slots were taken by Susan Elder and C. Ratenbatch, respectively.
The competition was graced by George Mkuchika, Minister of Information, Culture, and Sports, and.Boaz Mbaya, Kenyan High Commissioner to Tanzania. Also present were Cyril Chami, Deputy Minister for Trade, Industries, and Marketing, the Regional Commissioners of Arusha, Mwanza and Mtwara and Arusha's Regional Police Commander, Basilio Matei.
The presentation of prizes by the Guest of Honour was followed by a fund raising session towards promoting Cross Border Vigilante Security during which about T.shs.35 million was raised.
The event will next year be held at Nairobi Royal Golf Club.
