Nigeria: NUJ Signs MoU With Chadian Counterparts

As a move towards establishing stronger communication ties between the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and her Chadian counterpart, the two unions have signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
This was disclosed yesterday in Abuja when a delegation of Chadian journalists, led by its president, Evariste Ngarlem Tolde, paid a courtesy call to the headquarters of LEADERSHIP Newspapers Group.
Evariste said their motive for coming to Nigeria was informed by their desire to interact and build a working relationship with Nigerian media establishments.
"So far we have noted that we have a very vibrant and strong group of journalists here, fighting for the interest of the population," he said.
He also noted that both unions could work together in areas of sharing professional ideas and techniques, exchange of visits the training of members using the platform of the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ) in Abuja, and the exchange of documentary, adding that they were necessary tools in fostering the bonds of friendship and collaboration between the two unions.
He disclosed that both unions have agreed to collaborate with other unions in Lake Chad basin countries of Cameroun and Niger, as a means of contributing to the reactivation of Lake Chad using the platform of the Lake Chad Commission.
Furthermore, he congratulated LEADERSHIP Newspaper Group on their efforts in flying the flag of objective reporting, stressing that he is impressed with the vibrancy and dedication which the journalists put into their job.
"Just now we have seen in the newsroom that journalists concentrate so much to do what they are supposed to do," he said.

While welcoming the delegation, the editor of the LEADERSHIP Sunday, Mr. Emmanuel Bello, expressed support for the Memorandum of Understanding noting that it certainly would go a long way in fostering close relationship within the region.
