As the Nigerian telecom market keeps attracting many suitors by the day, old acquantacies are also restrategising to still remain in contention. For instance, leading electronics giant, Samsung, last week, introducing a new handset, the Samsung B130 into the Nigerian market, saying the product would service thebudget-conscious Nigerian phone users.

According to Samsung, having discovered that these set of people who seek basic functionality, performance and durability, are still highly under served, it was imperative that their interests are taken into consideration if a company is targeting the top spot of the market.

However, the company said even as the phone was built, targeting at the lower end of the highly competitive Nigerian market, it was still an embodiment of sleekness product with a host of functions usually associated with expensive handsets.

"It is clearly more than the consumer's expectations, from a low-budget handset, given the killer applications it contains because the Samsung SGH-B 130 comes in a highly-coveted bar form which makes it highly useable. It feels small in the palm and it is very comfortable to hold. Consumers will appreciate the unobtrusiveness of the handset. It clearly stands out in terms of design amongst phones in the range."

The product, according to Samsung, is unique in its way, having a travel adaptor and a PC Data Link Cable that allows connection to computers as optional devices.

Unveiling the product at a media launch in Ikeja, Lagos last week, MD of Samsung Nigeria, Mr James You, said Samsung was a giant electronics company with concern for the economy, culture and passion of the countries where it operates.

He noted that his company remained the solid number 2 mobile phone brand in the world and in Nigeria too and so would continue to release unique and outstanding innovative phones so as to satisfy the consumers who are actually the ones to take to the number 1 spot.
