4 August 2008

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Asante Akyem South constituency, Mrs. Gifty Ohene-Konadu, has presented a quantity of streetlight bulbs, valued at GH¢1,500, from her share of the MP's Common Fund to the Asankare Community.

The Constituency Chairman for Asante Akyem South, Mr. Isaac Opare, presented the items on behalf of the MP.

Mrs. Ohene-Konadu, who is also the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Private Sector Development and President's Special Initiative, assured the constituency that she was ever-ready to do more, development wise, to move the district forward.

She advised the people to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme, in their numbers, to access free medical care.

The MP further urged the youth, particularly those who had attained 18 years, to register in their numbers, to ensure a massive first round victory for the NPP, in this year's general elections, to retain power for the third consecutive time.

Nana Ofori Amanfo Diatuo I, Kyidomhene of the Asankare Traditional Area, received the items on behalf of the community, and expressed appreciation to the MP for her gesture.

Nana Diatuo said the bulbs had arrived at the right time, and would be put to good use.

He further appealed to other philanthropists, Asankare citizens resident both home and abroad, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to also come to the aid of Asankare, in order to move the community forward.

The Kyidomhene, in turn, handed over the bulbs to the Unit Committee Chairman, Mr. Kwadwo Amankwaah (alias Top 3).

Present at the ceremony were Nana Yaw Owusu and Mr. Stephen Yaw Fosu, government appointee and elected assembly member respectively.
