Ghana: Opare Ansah Inspects Gh¢25,000 Market Project

Isaac Akwetey Koforidua

4 August 2008

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Suhum Constituency, in the Eastern Region, Mr. Frederick Opare Ansah, has inspected a market project, estimated at a cost of GH¢25,000, at Kukua, a village within the constituency.

The project, which was begun somewhere in October last year, and funded by the MP out of his Common Fund, had reached 95 per cent completion point.

Speaking to a section of the Koforidua press corps, during a media tour of the constituency, Mr. Opare said the constructional work of the market, formed part of his developmental agenda in the constituency.

According to him, when the project is completed, it would pave the way, as well as create the platform for an enabling business environment, leading to the alleviation of poverty in the area.

He, therefore, called on the residents of the area, to take advantage of the market when completed, to improve upon their standard of living.

As part of the inspection, the MP, who is also the Deputy Minister for Communication, toured some villages in the area, including Nankesse and Kwahia, to have first hand information of some of the teething problems, confronting residents there.

At Nankesse, the MP donated 200 bags of cement, two trips of stones, three trips of sand, and presented a cash of GH¢500 towards the construction of a community library, which was ongoing in the area.

The MP further donated 50 bags of cement, three trips of stones and a cash of GH¢200 to the Kwahia community, for rehabilitation works on the Kwahia District Authority Junior High School building.

The Headmaster of the school, Mr. Samuel Larbi, on behalf of the school, expressed his profound gratitude to the MP for his kind gesture.

According to him, the condition of the school had been a headache for the chiefs and people of the area, because it had not seen any major repairs, since its construction some 45 years ago with mud and wattle, and which has now become a deathtrap for the children.

He, therefore, described the donation by the MP, as timely and towards a meaningful cause for the people of the area, as it would save the school, and the area from any unforeseen circumstances.

In all, the MP donated items worth over GH¢5,500 from his own pocket.
