Chief Government spokesperson Mike Mulongoti  has castigated politicians who have forgotten about morality in discussing President Levy Mwanawasa's illness.

Speaking yesterday at a musical concert and prayers for the recovery of President Mwanawasa hosted by the Living Water Global Church, Mr Mulongoti said the Church should not listen to power-hungry politicians.

"Politicians like power and some of them, when they see an opportunity, they forget about issues of morality," he said.

He said President Mwanawasa's illness was a minor setback and God would heal him.

Mr Mulongoti said there was nothing wrong with Government leaders sharing prayers with the Church because they also miss the President's presence.

He said President Mwanawasa's illness had touched all and brought challenges on how people perceive the country.

The minister assured those praying for Dr Mwanawasa's recovery that with God there was nothing impossible and prayers should continue because God would heal him in his own time.

He said God would have mercy because he gave President Mwanawasa to Zambia for a purpose and those praying for him should grow in faith because the President has improved the country and does not sympathise with wrongdoers because he surrenders them to the courts.

Living Water Global Church pastor Chrispin Chipampe said the church has been monitoring President Mwanawasa's illness and was sure that his condition would improve.

Pastor Chipampe said that the Church was sure that God's hand would touch the President because leadership was a God-given gift.
