Local Government and Housing Minister Sylvia Masebo has urged business entities to desist from turning residential plots into business places.
Ms Masebo made the appeal during the just-ended Zambia Agricultural and Commercial Show in Lusaka.
Speaking during a luncheon for winners in the showgrounds, the minister urged the exhibitors to obey the laws at all times even when such companies wanted land to develop.
"I have here in mind the many applications for change of land use and indeed the encroachment of commercial premises into residential areas," she said.
Ms Masebo said that such developments add to the congestion of traffic in residential areas.
She said the roads in residential areas were not designed to accommodate the increased traffic and parking requirements.
Ms Masebo said the local authorities could only provide necessary support and guidance.
The minister also urged the exhibitors to uphold the non-smoking ban and to continue promoting the 'Make Zambia Clean' campaign.
The Lusaka Hotel hosted the winner's luncheon for various categories which included small-scale farmers in which Cherish Farm won the best cross-breed gilts.
Haroon Ghumra's flower shop scooped the first prize in the flower show category and in catering the first prize went to Garden Shop.
Patina Take Away walked away with the second prize in the same category.
The best second prize in the non-government exhibit category went to Sylva Food Solution who also won second prize for the best made-in-Zambia exhibition.
