5 August 2008

Luanda — The second edition of the Music and Book International Fair was opened on Monday, in the Journalists Training Centre (CEFOJOR), in Luanda.

The opening act was chaired by the deputy governor of Luanda for technical matters, Bento Soito, with the objective of promoting the liking of reading and music and the material produced by the Angolan editors.

Speaking to ANGOP, Bento Soito commended the group Artevivas, promoters of the event, and exhorted its officials to keep organising this kind of events, taking it to a national dimension, especially to attract the Angolan youths.

"This is an event that makes us happy, for it provides a set of conditions for all Angolans, not just young people, to have the opportunity of increasing their cultural level and knowledge, diversifying their culture and interacting with other cultures and countries", he underlined.

According to the programme, the event will include the showing of DVDs, live music, lectures and debates on the problem of books and reading in Angola.

Jomo Fortunato, a member of organising group, stressed that one of the goals is to turn this cultural fair into a regular event not only in the country, but also at international level, and the strategy of Artesvivas is to work around the production of books and public reading.

The opening act was attended by representatives of editors and publishers from Portugal, USA, Brazil, Cape Verde, Mozambiqe, Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé & Principe, France, Great Britain, Italy, Germany, Spain, Israel and Russia.

The ceremony was also witnessed, among other personalities, by the Angolan deputy minister of Social Communication, Manuel Miguel de Carvalho "Wadijimbi".
