South Africa: SA Must Lead Africa in Combating Food Crisis

THE global food crisis has special relevance for Africa, where its impact is especially damaging, bringing new threats to sustainable development and the environment as much as it undermines attempts to improve all Africans' lifestyles.

In trying to cope with this challenge, Africa should expect leadership from SA with its relatively strong capacities, but such leadership must come on a variety of fronts as the current crisis should be seen in its true multidimensional context. In all aspects of the food crisis there is a clear relevance and need for business to help to show the way ahead, particularly as the need to strengthen business activities is recognised as being of critical relevance in overcoming the crisis in Africa.
