The FCT Administration is planning to establish a free export zone for medical equipment in Abuja. The FCT Minister, Dr. Aliyu Modibbo Umar, made this known last week in Abuja while receiving a delegation of KBB & Partners International Healthcare Nigeria Limited who paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
According to him, this free export zone will be known as the Abuja Healthcare Village where over 500 hectares of land has already been dedicated to give room for future expansion.
The Minister said that this is in fulfillment of his administration's desire to carve a niche for Abuja as the center for excellent healthcare delivery in the West African sub-region. Dr. Umar remarked that it is the yearning and aspiration of the FCT Administration under his leadership to make Abuja the hub of healthcare delivery in the region where the health needs of the people of the region could be adequately satisfied.
He emphasised that every modern city in the world has an identity and Abuja cannot be an exception. The Minister stressed that if Abuja is known for qualitative healthcare delivery, people from all over the world would not hesitate to come and enjoy such services at all times.
He assured the KBB & Partners delegation that the FCT Administration will allocate a suitable plot of land for their proposed 400-bed hospital in Abuja.
The Minister urged KBB & Partners to come and establish a hospital equipment factory in Abuja by subscribing to the proposed Abuja Healthcare Free Export Zone; adding that Abuja will be the gateway to the West African sub-region with a viable market alternative. The leader of the delegation and former Inspector-General of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Coomassie, said, KBB & Partners is a consortium of indigenous and foreign entrepreneurs who already have a design to build a 400-bed international standard hospital in Abuja.
Alhaji Coomassie revealed that the proposed 400-bed hospital will consist of 7 beds for a multi specialty intensive care unit and 7 beds for short admissions; saying that the consortium plans to build 200 bed in the first phase.
