Namibia's Olympic management team, which departed from Hosea Kutako International Airport yesterday, is reportedly stranded in Hong Kong because of a typhoon preventing them from travelling to Beijing.

Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) Chief Administrator Rusten Mogane said the management team could not take off from Hong Kong, but they are safe and are being accommodated at hotels.

He said the management team consists of Deputy Minister of Sport Pohamba Shifeta, NSC chairman Stanley Simaata, Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC) president Agnes Tjongarero, NNOC secretary general Abner Xoagub, boxing coach Kennedy Muatara and Nampa sub-editor Natasha Diergaardt.

According to Mogane, the two long-distance runners Helalia Johannes and Beata Naigambo will depart from Windhoek on Sunday.
