Monrovia — The Coalition of Political Party Women in Liberia (COPPWIL) is still pressing for 30 percent representation of women in government.

The Executive Coordinator of COPPWIL, Ms. Mariah Fyneah said the 30 percent representation of women in the government was yet to be realized.

She said women are capable of performing any task like their male counterparts, and as such, they should be given the opportunity to serve their country.

Ms. Fyneah said gone are the days when women were made to take the back seat while the men made decisions, adding "what men can do, the women are more capable of doing likewise."

Speaking at a meeting organized by the Montserrado County Branch of COPPWIL, Ms. Fyneah said her organization has planned to visit every electoral district to create awareness among women in those areas for them to join COPPWIL in petitioning the National Legislature to enact a law that would make it mandatory for 30 percent representation of women in government.

During the meeting, the women agreed to support women candidates during elections.

She said COPPWIL would support women candidates from any political party who are qualified to represent them in the National Legislature.

Already, a bank account has been established to raise funds to support women candidates in upcoming elections.

She said IRI has over the years trained women on how they can participate in politics.

COPPWIL comprises of six major political parties including Unity Party, Congress for Democracy Change (CDC), Liberty Party, National Patriotic Party, Liberia Action Party and National Democratic Party of Liberia.
