Nigeria Olympic gold medallist Garba Lawal has expressed disappointment in the performance of Holland while giving kudos to Dream Team IV after both sides played out a 0-0 draw on Thursday.

"I was disappointed in Holland," Lawal, who played some of the best years of his career with Dutch club Roda JC Kerkrade, told KickOffNigeria.com after the game. "I expected to see a much stronger side but the Nigerian team played better.

"They depended too much on the likes of Makaay, Babel and Drenthe and they didn't look as strong as I thought they would be."

For his compatriots, Lawal said he was happy with the overall performance, "I think they did well. First games are always difficult, especially when you play against a team like Holland.

"They were just unlucky not to score. If they had a bit more luck, we would have won the game."

And Lawal pointed out that Dream Team IV would need more than a good helping of that commodity as they sought to win the gold medal.

"The only thing a team needs in tournaments like this is the luck to score goals, and I hope they can find it in their next games."

He also advised the team not to worry about playing eye-pleasing football.

"It is not about playing well, but getting the points. I prefer my team to play badly and win than to play well and lose. At the end of the day, what people remember is who won the match, not who played the best football."
