Nigeria: Raise Country's Military Capacity, Mark Urges Defence College

President of the Senate, Chief David Mark, has urged the Nigerian Defense College to embark on new strategies that would develop the capacities of Nigerian military to enable it perform it statutory functions of protecting the country.
Senator Mark who was addressing the Course 16 participants of the National Defense College at a graduation dinner in Abuja said it was the responsibility of the College to train and develop Nigerian military personnel with a view to making them abreast with happenings in the world.
"The challenges are daunting, but we must be prepared to defend our nation in spite of the odds. We must transform our armed forces and work with other relevant agencies to achieve the desired goals." He said.
Senator Mark while charging the men and officers of the college to study and work hard for the growth of the country said that the federal government is committed to providing a stable political environment and the means that would facilitate the discharging of their duties.
His words, "As a nation we remain committed to international peace, but I must remind the participants that in the days ahead Nigerians will be making demands on you on matters of national security.
"The National Assembly will continue to support the college in its efforts of training officers of the nation's armed forces."
Earlier in his remark, the Commandant of the College, Rear Admiral G.J. Jonah reiterated the commitment of the institution to developing the capacities of Nigeria's military personnel.
He said 103 participants would be graduating on Friday, with only nine of them from other African countries of Cameroon, Mali, Niger, DR Congo, Republic of Benin, Sierra Leone and Ghana.
One of the foreign students, Col. Roberts from the Republic of Benin, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues said they were happy to be part of the programme as they have garnered so much experiences that would be put into good use in their country on their return.

He all the participants are now prepared for high standard international military assignments adding that the course had enabled them to study military organizations of other developed countries.
