Ghana: HIV/Aids Cases Rise in Ahafo Ano North District

Subriso — HIV/AIDS CASES in the Ahafo Ano North District, of the Region have reportedly increased, over a one year period.

The District Director of Health Services, Mrs. Elizabeth Adentwi, disclosed this at a community durbar, organized by the district AIDS Committee and the District Health Administration, at Subriso near Tepa recently, saying that the district hospital recorded 65 cases, between January and June this year.

The figure was 20 more than the 45 cases recorded last year, over the same period.

She said the number was expected to rise, as a result of the acceptance by the people to partake in Voluntary and Counseling Test (VCT), and Prevention Mother to Child Transmission (PMCT).

Mrs. Adentwi cautioned the youth to abstain from unprotected sex, because AIDS was real, and that it was no respecter of persons.

She also cautioned married couples against infidelity.

Meanwhile, out of the 57 persons, who voluntarily tested for AIDS and PMCT in the community, only one tested positive.

The Laboratory Technician of the District hospital, Mr. John Provinseh, commended the people of Subriso for heir smart turn up, and urged other people to emulate same, to enable them know their HIV/AIDS status.
