Ghana: English Premiership Now Live On Citi FM

Kofi Owusu Aduonum

8 August 2008

Citi 97.3 fm will from the start of the 2008/2009 season broadcast live radio commentary on the Barclays English Premier League to its cherished audience.

The station has the exclusive right to broadcast official radio commentary of the premiership games to Ghana, and starting Saturday August 16, 2008, Citi fm would comprehensively broadcast live premiership games, to include 90 minutes of commentary and 25 minutes of pre and post match analysis, as well as live half time update of games from all venues.

Citi fm is pleased to announce that it has successfully concluded the deal with the premiership league, who are impressed with Citi fm's commitment to quality programming and are keen in getting the world's most popular league into the homes of Ghanaians through radio.

This deal is principally important as it would afford millions of Ghanaian the opportunity to experience live- the atmosphere, drama, suspense and passion of the premiership through the convenience and comfort of radio.

Up till now, there has not been any live full-game official radio commentary of the Barclays Premiership in Ghana. The live commentary on Citi fm would therefore be the first of its kind in the country. We are particularly excited to be bringing theses games to Ghanaians at a time when more Ghanaian players are making strides in the world's most popular league.

Apart from the obvious exploits of Michael Essien at Chelsea and Sulley Muntari at Portmouth last season, the likes of the Mustapha Riga at Bolton Wanderers, John Paintsil at Fulham and the expected move of Anthony Annan to Blackburn Rovers have given Ghanaian an even bigger stake in the league.

Our coverage starts with the first game of the season on Saturday August 16, 2008, when Arsenal host West Brom at the Emirates Stadium at 11:30 GMT; this would then be followed by the Sunderland Liverpool game from the stadium of light.

The live commentary of the league will run throughout the season covering up to 300 games, with updates on all 700 games to listeners throughout the over 40 weeks in the 2008/2009 season.

Listeners can check www.citifmonline.com for weekly fixtures and should expect exciting promotions as the premier league rolls out throughout the season.
