Borno — Farmers in southern senatorial district of Borno State have enjoined wealthy sons and daughters from the zone to emulate the virtues of Ambassador Saidu Pindar by providing necessary farming inputs to them at affordable prices to boost food production in the area.

Speaking to LEADERSHIP WEEKEND in Abuja, a former comptroller of the Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS), turned a big– time farmer, Alhaji Abdullahi Aliyu Biu, said with adequate farming inputs, the inhabitants of the senatorial district who are predominantly farmers would produce enough food that could feed the nation.

He said farmers in the zone were very happy and grateful to Nigeria's former ambassador to Sao Tome and Precipice, Alhaji Saidu Pindar for coming to their aide with tonnes of fertiliser for use in this farming season.

"At a time the product was very scarce and costly, Ambassador Pindar brought in several tonnes of fertiliser to us and sold at a cheap price of N2, 050 per bag as against the market price of N4, 300 per bag.

"We wish that others like him, who God has blessed, could emulate him and make available, such farming inputs to us at the appropriate time and affordable prices.

"I can assure you that if we the farmers of southern Borno State have access to necessary farming inputs and at the right time, we will produce enough food that will feed not only our state but the entire country," the former prisons boss stated.

On his part, Ambassador Pindar told our correspondent that he decided to procure the product and sell at a price that is most affordable as his contribution towards boosting food production.

"Apart from the fact that I was trying to help the people of my community who contributed in one way or the other in bringing me up, I also thought it appropriate to provide this product against the backdrop of the looming food crisis that is threatening the very existence of millions of people in the world today," he stated.

He said he would continue to do more for his people as part of his contribution to the development of the area, which he said was lagging behind in real development.
