The only thing we have to fear is fear itself, so said President Roosevelt when he decided to stare down the Great Depression. True, fear can lead to desperation often ending in self-destruction.
When on the same day earlier in the week the NDC and NPP accused each other of intimidation, I was left wondering which of the two parties I should not believe. As an NPP voter, well, I did hope that party's position was more credible.
For different reasons, I also wished I could believe the NDC. The fear of losing the December elections has gripped both parties and they are losing their cool. The kind of language they are using betrays their fear making them into dangerous creatures indeed - like some cornered wild animal. But what is there to fear?
NPP's fears, I believe emanate from an expected NDC vengeance/vendetta and another long spell in opposition. The NDC's - well is the fear of decimation and another 4 years of the NPP. That prospect is so unpalatable that the party's founder, ex-Flt. Lt. Rawlings has declared publicly that he is putting his life on the line to prevent another NPP term.
But what of the majority who belong to neither the NDC nor NPP? They just want a quiet, peaceful, stable country to go about their legitimate affairs in search of happiness and wellbeing.
No one, no political party, has the right to deny them that, no matter what fears they harbour about an election outcome...Let us banish fear.
