Botswana: Ramaotwana Quits Politics to Join AG's Chambers

Gaborone — The former Mayor of Gaborone, Nelson Ramaotwana, has resigned his council seat as councillor for the Village Ward and withdrawn his parliamentary candidature in Gaborone Central to join the Attorney General's Chambers where he expects "peace of mind" in an environment free from "political gossip and character assassination".

In a statement he issued yesterday, Ramaotwana, who is a lawyer by training and who was once President of the Botswana National Front Youth League (BNFYL), stops short of saying he is being hounded out of the running by the Secretary General of the opposition BNF, Mohammed Khan.
