Liberia: Ricks Institute Introduces New Evaluation Methods

Monrovia — The Ricks Institute in Brewerville outside Monrovia has introduced a new evaluation method for the ensuing academic year.

Making the disclosure Sunday at the institute's 2007/ 2008 closing program, Rev. OLu Menjay, Administrator of the School said beginning 2008/2009 academic year the institute would begin evaluating its students in four major disciplines including mathematics, General Science, Language Arts and Social Studies.

He said students would also be evaluated in disciplines such Bible, Economics, Civics, and French, among others through quizzes and projects.

He said the institute's emphasis would be placed on the number of subjects offered and how well they are comprehended by students.

Rev. Menjay said students graduating from the twelfth grade would be required to make a public speech.

"Prospective graduates from the twelfth grade would be required to make a public speech that would be certified by judges and intellectuals from the community as a requirement for graduation," he added.

He said the introduction of a new evaluation method is intended to help students understand their lessons and enhance the students' academic ability in basic subjects and

not intended to change the Ministry of Education's curriculum.

Meanwhile, the school said it had a total enrollment of 427 students during academic year 2007/2008.

According to its academic year's reports, out of the total enrollment 17 students graduated from 12th Grade.
